We have attempted the transfer of the teaching module Acoustic properties of materials, designed in Catalonia through a research based procedure, in the framework of the project «Materials Science». The activity sequence was implemented in two classes in a Technical School in Cyprus, as part of the course of Physics. Problems that appear due to the transfer of the module of one educational system to another are discussed. We collected data through a reflective diary kept by the teacher during the implementation, along with pre- and post-tests which investigated the extent to which the knowledge objectives were met. We also measured the motivation and attitudes of students towards Physics as a school subject, and the extent to which these changed through their active engagement in collaborative group work for an extenive period of time, by using questionnaires before and after the implementation. These results are discussed in the context of a policy framework for the development of mechanisms for exchanging effective teaching practices between different educational settings at European level.
