This paper describes the design and implementation of a software simulation, that was used during the application of a specific learning module concerning the teaching of sinking and floating phenomena, that was designed for the Materials Science Project (http://lsg.ucy.ac.cy/MaterialsScience). At first we present the main requirements and specifications derived from the needs of the learning module. We describe the design of the user interface and we analyze aspects that concern material bodies, fluids and other objects and phenomena that were simulated using the Game Maker environment. Finally, we refer to aspects that arose from the application of the software and present some ideas and thoughts  about possible improvements and refinements.
